Your lifespan depends a lot on your lifestyle. There is no denying the fact that if you are a non-smoker, if you don’t drink or drink very little, if you exercise daily and keeps interested in an outdoor game, and if you don’t take much stress in life your lifespan is going to be longer than others who indulge or involve in all these poor habits and practices. Several research works also showing that sufficient sleep and socializing also necessary for longer and healthy life. But, a new study is showing that lifespan is also closely related to the region. It is indeed a mind-blowing revelation.
A study conducted by a group of researchers of Ohio State University considering the obituaries of more than one thousand Americans, it was found that people irrespective of their marital status and sex who had some sorts of religious affiliations lived four years longer on an average than those who had no such religious lifespan.
According to these researchers of Ohio University, religious affiliation has a stronger effect on the lifespan of a person. In fact, it can expand the life span in some years like 4-5 years.
In this context, the researchers mentioned two parallel theories that they think the probable reasons behind such a wonderful outcome.
The first theory states that religious people take part in various social works for which they socialize more with their neighbours and common people. Some previous research works have already proved that people who socialize and volunteer more live longer than those who don’t. According to the researchers, this is one of the reasons behind the long life of religious people but there are some other reasons as well which the second theory makes clear.
The second theory states that religious affiliation has different other influences over a person that directly effects their lifestyle and wellbeing of that person. Religion discourages any types of has habits like smoking, taking drugs, drinking, eating unhealthy food, and many more. Religious practices teach people to be disciplined and punctual in every aspect of their life. Last but not least, religious practices include spiritual practices, meditation, and prayers which help to distress the body and mind. All these together make life healthier and longer.
Some other factors that these two theories and the related research have not stated also need special mention. First, religious practices teach people to lead a peaceful family life and maintain stronger bonding with parents, spouse, siblings, sons, daughters, and other relatives. Several research works have proved that people who have stronger family bonding live longer. Another aspect is that almost all regions believe there are an afterlife and rebirth which inspire people with religious affiliations to lead a spiritual and fearless life that extends their lifespan.
In any case, the study has been spreading the good news that religious affiliation and religious practices give you another 4-5 years. Even if that is not, you at least get habituated in a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.
